SUMMER BOOK CLUB: Join Pastor Marcia on Tuesday, August 6th at 6:30 PM for a book discussion on Jesus and the Powers by theologian N.T. Wright. As we enter another election season, many of us feel weary and discouraged by the challenges we face as a society and divisions we face even as Christians when we think about politics. In this book, N.T. Wright (who is from England) explores some of the history of the relationship between governments and the church over the centuries, and helps Christians think about what it means to be part of Jesus’ kingdom on earth, and a Christian witness within political systems. Young adults – you are especially invited to join us as you begin to find your own way in the complicated world of politics and voting. Books can be purchased on your own at a local bookstore or via Amazon here: Jesus and the Powers.  Please read the book before you come.

PASTOR MARCIA will be on vacation through July 7th. She will not be checking email and at times will have limited access to cell service. If you have an urgent need during this time, please reach out to the church office, to your elder, or to Pastor Jeremy.

THANK YOU to each and every one of you for such a warm welcome to our family as I have started
working here  as your  Director of Discipleship!  We are so excited to get to know each and every one of you!  If we haven’t met you yet, please come introduce yourself!  My door is always open to thoughts and ideas on discipleship here at Zion, so please feel free to reach out to me at anytime!  Angie Walker

COMMUNION: On Sunday, June 23rd, we will celebrate communion and will receive an offering for our Benevolence Fund. Needs in our larger Grandville/Jenison community continue to be great, and we have been blessed to help care for some tangible needs. However, the regular use of the fund has brought it to a relatively low balance right now. We invite you to join us in care by giving generously to this fund.

PRAYER REQUEST:  Tom Verbrugge continues to be treated for cellulitis that caused sepsis. Pray for those in our congregation who deal with ongoing health issues.

MAURIE LEMMEN entered his eternal home on Wednesday, June 19th. Please keep Lorraine and the Lemmen family in your prayers in this time of grief and loss. May they feel the comfort and strength of our Savior.

Camp Zion 2024 – Week 1

Hello Camp Zion Families,

All of our staff members and volunteers are excited to spend the next 7 weeks with your kids.  I know we are going to have an amazing summer together.

Camp begins tomorrow Monday, June 17. Our staff will begin signing kids in at Door D  (new location!) at 9am. Parents please stay in your vehicle while in the drop off lane. We will sign your child in for the day once you have pulled up to the drop off zone.

On Monday during circle time we will be reviewing the camp rules and code of conduct with your kids.  We’ll also explain any changes we’ve made here at camp and we will answer any questions that they might have about our summer together.

Here is what we have planned for this week.

Week 1 (June 17-20) Games Galore!!!

  • Monday: Plunger Hockey & Frisbee Golf
  • Tuesday: Nuk’em & Checkers
  • Wednesday: Uno & Crafting.
  • Thursday: Field Trip: Tarry Hall. Wear good walking shoes and socks.  Skates are provided, but kids can bring their own rollerblades/skates if they would prefer.

Please send a water bottle with your kids everyday – labeled with their name.

I will be taking oodles and oodles of pictures this summer. Be sure to check out (and “like”) our Facebook and Instagram pages so you can see what your kids are up to each day.

For more specifics on our days spent at camp the Camp Zion 2024 Parent Info document can be found on the Zion Reformed Church Website.

See you all tomorrow.

~Rachel

PRAYER REQUEST:  Tom Verbrugge is hospitalized and being treated for cellulitis that caused sepsis. Maurie Lemmen has been diagnosed with a mass in the lining of his right lung. Due to the challenges of a potential biopsy and treatment, the family has decided not to seek further medical treatment for the mass and instead begin receiving hospice care at home. Arlene Zandbergen is still undergoing some tests but in general, is feeling well.

PLEASE JOIN us in prayer as delegates from across our denomination, the Reformed Church in America, gather from June 13-18 in Arizona for the annual General Synod meetings. Pastor Marcia will be attending Synod as a delegate on behalf of the Regional Synod of the Great Lakes. If you are interested in following along, updates from Synod will be available  on the RCA website here: https://www.rca.org/about/government/general-synod/

CAMP ZION:  Camp Zion begins Monday!  We have 45 children registered to join us this summer.  If you are interested in volunteering at camp or providing snacks for our campers there are sign-up sheets on the Camp Zion bulletin board in the hallway across from the drinking fountain. Also please check out our Camp Zion Amazon Wish List.  This will be updated often between now and the start of camp as new projects and activities are added to the schedule.  We would appreciate your help providing new toys and craft items for our campers to enjoy.
